ROMA – “Under Pressure” dei Queen e David Bowie è stata rilasciata nel mese di ottobre del 1981 e fu fin da subito una hit da record.
La canzone divenne il secondo singolo al primo posto della top ten britannica della band ed il terzo del Duca Bianco.
Come oggi sappiamo, sarebbe poi stata destinata a diventare una track leggendaria per le persone di tutto il mondo.
Ma una registrazione inedita di Mercury e Bowie non venne mai trasmessa alla radio.
Si tratta di una versione a cappella di Under Pressure, dove le voci dei due artisti danno vita ad un tripudio musicale.
L’audio è stato caricato su YouTube nel 2011 e riscoperto dalla Open Culture nel 2013.
LA STORIA DI UNDER PRESSURE
Roger Taylor raccontò a Mark Blake – autore della biografia dei Queen “It’s this the real life?: The Untold Story of Freddie Mercury & Queen – che David Bowie e la band si recarono in uno studio in Svizzera, dove il Duca Bianco avrebbe dovuto registrare parti vocali per la canzone Cool Cat dei Queen.
Tuttavia, la sua parte venne cancellata dallo stesso Bowie, non soddisfatto della sua performance.
Nella biografia, Taylor Blake racconta che David e i Queen suonarono una sessione di jam per tutta la notte, solo per divertimento.
“Alla fine, David ha detto, ‘Perché non la scriviamo una insieme?'”
Partendo da un brano incompiuto dei Queen, “Feel Like”, collaborarono per quasi 24 ore in una maratona di vino e cocaina che alla fine ha prodotto “Under Pressure” (il cui titolo iniziale fu People On Streets).
La versione embrionale del brano senza Bowie,” Feel Like “, è disponibile in forma bootleg, ed è stata scritta dal batterista dei Queen, Roger Taylor.
David Bowie cantò per la prima volta dal vivo Under Pressure nel 1992 al Freddie Mercury Tribute, accompagnato nella parte vocale da Annie Lennox e i membri dei Queen.
