Il brano, pubblicato a sorpresa dalla cantante, anticipa il nuovo album di inediti che segue di pochi mesi l’uscita di Sweetener. Era solo agosto quando, infatti, Ari pubblicava il suo quarto disco di inediti. Questo seguito dovrebbe arrivare entro la fine dell’anno.

Ariana Grande canta di tutte le volte che ha voltato pagina dopo la fine di una storia d’amore. “Pensavo sarei finita con Sean”, confessa la 25enne in apertura di brano. “Ho scritto canzoni su Ricky” – Alvarez, il ballerino con cui l’artista ha avuto una relazione dopo Big Sean e fino al 2016, ndr. – “ora le ascolto e rido”.
“Vorrei poter dire grazie a Malcolm perché ora è un angelo” canta ancora Ariana, riferendosi al rapper morto lo scorso 7 settembre.
Immancabile un pensiero per Pete Davidson con il quale “mi sono quasi sposata”. Thank you, next potrebbe essere nata proprio all’indomani della rottura della relazione lampo con il comico del Saturday Night Live, divenuta pubblica circa un mese fa.
Sono state settimane complicate per la cantante che è stata molto provata dalla morte di Miller. Un evento tragico che ha cambiato completamente lo stato delle cose. Il risultato è stato l’annullamento del matrimonio, su cui ovviamente non è stato dato alcun dettaglio.
Dal canto suo Pete Davidson ha affrontato l’argomento Ariana Grande nell’ultima puntata del Saturday Night Live. “So che alcuni di voi sono curiosi della rottura, ma la verità è che a volte le cose non funzionano e va bene – ha detto il comico -. (Ariana) è una persona meravigliosa e forte e sinceramente le auguro tutta la felicità del mondo”. In realtà, Davidson avrebbe registrato un intero sketch sulla sua relazione finita, poi tagliato dalla puntata mandata in onda.

Nel brano, l’interprete di God is a woman svela anche di aver già conosciuto un altro uomo. “Passo più tempo con i miei amici. Non mi preoccupo di nulla. In più, ho incontrato qualcun altro”, canta Ariana. Poi aggiunge: “So che dicono che vado troppo veloce ma questo durerà”.
