Poche ore prima della tragica notizia, la band di Los Angeles ha pubblicato online l’ultimo video dei Linkin Park con Chester Bennington: Talking to myself. Il brano è il terzo singolo estratto da One More Light, settimo album del gruppo uscito lo scorso 19 maggio.
È così che un’uscita programmata tempo prima si è trasformata in una strana coincidenza. Il video di Talking to myself è, infatti, arrivato sul canale ufficiale dei Linkin Park proprio il 20 luglio: giorno in cui Chester si è tolto la vita. Nella clip si susseguono immagini di live che il gruppo ha fatto nell’ultimo periodo, mentre eseguono il brano.

Talking to myself è stata scritta da Bennington. Il testo racconta il punto di vista di sua moglie Talinda che l’ha visto affrontare i suoi demoni, le difficoltà e oggi – con il senno di poi – la sua sconfitta contro il mostro della depressione. Il suo un sostegno costante che, purtroppo, non ha portato a una soluzione perché – come recita il testo – alla fine ogni cosa che lei diceva la diceva a se stessa. Musicalmente, la canzone è stata descritta dai Linkin Park come una reminiscenza dei The Killers.
